Early childhood success: From the multitude of connections within the developing brain to the fundamental habits crucial to good health, the foundation for successful learning is built in the earliest years.
Earn It. Keep It. Grow It: We're focusing on getting individuals into jobs with upward earning potential in careers and growing industries; keeping dollars earned with families and helping them access tax incentives while lowering expenses.
Hunger Initiative: We are helping individuals and families access emergency food near their homes, while also looking at long-term food security solutions that will promote a healthy lifestyle.
United Way recruits people and organizations who bring the passion, expertise, and resources needed to get things done. We advance the common good by creating opportunities for a better life for all. Our focus is on education, income and basic needs - the building blocks for a good quality of life.
All donations are made to the Student United Way at Wayne State University. We truly appreciate your commitment to helping make our community a better place for all.
United Way funds local programs that are addressing our community's most critical needs. Donor volunteers oversee the distribution of United Way dollars through an annual process called Community Investment.
Each year, approximately 250 donors volunteer their time to review funding requests from local programs hoping to receive United Way support. These volunteers carefully assess program proposals, financial information, performance history, and outcomes measurement data in order to make funding recommendations to our Board of Directors.
Organizations that are approved are known as Partner Agencies. They have proven with reliable data that they are addressing critical needs in our community and achieving measurable results. We ensure our donors receive the maximum impact for their charitable investment, while maintaining the highest level of accountability.
PHILANTHROPY is based on voluntary action for the common good. It is a tradition of giving and sharing that is primary to the quality of life. To ensure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the general public, and that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in the not-for-profit organizations and causes they are asked to support, we declare that all donors have certain rights.
